This month I had the opportunity to study Intro to Christian Theology through the Institute of Biblical Studies. There were around 50-60 students enrolled in this two and half week course.
My little study group.
One of the topics we studied was Christology.
Who is Jesus?
He is a person of the Trinity- God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.
He is fully human & divine; both natures are forever united and distinct in one person.
Philippians 2:5-8
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
There is an importance to his name, “Christ." For, it is a title that means anointed one.
Greek word χριστός (chrīstós)
We were first asked, “Write down how the work of Jesus saves.”
I had written, “Jesus was born of the virgin to live a perfect life only to be crucified and resurrected for our sins.” I stopped short and failed to add his exaltation. Every aspect of Christ's life gives us hope and offers salvation to us.
Humiliation: Incarnation, sinless life, Crucifixion
Exaltation: Resurrection, ascension, enthronement, Return (Christ’s second coming, future reign).
In his humiliation and exaltation, we find an abundant fulfilling life.
His saving work bought us.
He is our Priest, Prophet, & King forever & forever.
